Snr Leader in tank firing multiple MMG

Post by gcoops »

A tank has a turret mounted HMG, a co-axial MMG and a hull MMG.

If the vehicle is commanded by a Snr Leader can he order them all to fire in the same phase? Do they have to be all at the same target? Are they all 6 dice to hit?

Thanks

This is my opinion, I am sure others don´t agree:
- The HMG and coaxial MMg are linked, so shoot with 8 dice (6+2)
- The hull MMG shoots with 6 dice.

This costs 2 activations, so any tank junior leader can order it.

The turret can shoot a target and the hull MMG a different target.

I would only allow one weapon to be fired out of a coaxil set up. Its one guy with two triggers*...and one hand 😁

*There are some set ups that differ, foot pedals too but KISS.

I like Seret’s answer, the leader firing the HMG certainly becomes a vulnerable target to snipers and other fire (would the turret give him hard cover protection to direct fire? Less to indirect fire I would have thought). Also agree that it would be difficult for him to issue other commands while doing this from outside of the turret.

Nothing in the OP question about top mounted MG tho it says turret as in Vickers VI 😁

PS I have not recognised any tank with the OP's combo of MG's - would be interested in more info. Or maybe I have a different understanding of the word turret Vs cupola mounted ?😋

If you search on here you will find several long threads over the last 6 years re the top mounted MG use.

The weapons dies not seem to be listed/ costed in the arsenals either

Yes, I was meaning cupola mounted 😜

I did try to search but all my search terms were rejected as being "too common" - story of my life!

Seret appears to answer - climb out to operate the cupola HMG but cannot activate anyone else inside the tank.

Only some early models of US tanks had pintle mounted AA MG that you needed to stand outside to operate.

Tank commanders soon improvised MG mounts they could operate from inside the tank.

Having said that accounts I have read of TC's using these were usually at 500-700m range were danger if return small arms fire was low.

At CoC ranges I would expect most tanks to be buttoned up or TC's certainly not waist high out of cupola.

Rich Clarke has previously stated that although in RL small arms could kill the MG operator on AFV he restricted it to snipers in CoC to force players to deal with AFV's with something other than small arms.
