Night rules

Post by MLB » Sun Jan 12, 2020 11:12 am

I seem to recall seeing various house rules here and there, but is there anything close to some official consensus for some night rules? I’ve tried searching the forum but nothing came up.

I'm not aware of consensus on this matter so we made our own which I included in my Winter War PSC http://www.saunalahti.fi/~ejuhola/7.62/ ... index.html They're in the optional rules file.

The just-appeared Saipan PSC also includes night rules.

There are night fighting rules in the Saipan PSC I posted earlier (although they're specific to one of the scenarios).

I'm making a (short) amateur PSC for the first night of the Battle of El Alamein. I elected to be as simple as possible and just restrict all visibility and fire to 18" (like the heavy rain random event). I did like your more complex rules 7dot62mm, especially those covering firing at muzzle flashes.

Great, thanks, all very useful. I have a few ideas of my own too. Will cogitate on these.

I also have LOS restricted to 18" and halved the effectiveness of defending MGs in close combat, but I allowed for the use of illumination flares (use a CoC die to launch, removes all night fighting penalties for 5 phases).

There are also night rules in the Winter Storm campaign book.
