Because vehicles were spread out when manouevring, not wheel to wheel.

I’ve never really seen the point of the one vehicle a phase rule.
To be honest neither have I. It only came to my attention when someone commented on one of my AARs for the Malaya campaign when I brought on a platoon of Ha Go tanks in one phase. Which leads me to think in the case of early war, radio-less tanks it doesn’t make sense given they operated in groups, pretty much playing follow the leader.

Yes but like shooting extremely hard to manage to corodinate with any precision. A phase is a few seconds and the troops are now in combat not parade ground mo

Also distance between tanks in combat is 20-50 m and in convoy when enemy air possible 50-200m

So bringing 3 tanks on hub to hub by playing the dice simultaneously and dropping 36 MG dice in a unit before it can respond doesn't feel right to me YMMV.

Is it not one per phase per road?

11.5 - Page 51 of the main rule book:
Where a single road is present, this will be the entry point; where multiple roads are present, the player may choose which one he will use as his entry point. Only one vehicle may arrive at a table entry point in a single Phase.

Admittedly this is a little ambiguous but I believe elsewhere on the forum this has been discussed and the conclusion was even if there are multiple roads on the friendly edge one will be selected as the single entry point and from there, only one vehicle can enter at a time.

I also seem to remember talk about introducing a possible support option allowing a pre-game reconnaissance which would allow entry from anywhere, not just a road.

Yeah, I read that as when a road is used as an entry point, it's been used for that turn. You get to pick which one.
