Russian Cossacks

Post by blakemj »

As a new convert to CoC (bought it at Salute) and wanting to play as the Russians, I am curious if you can use Cossacks as I have some painted already.

Not too worried if I cannot as I am getting my infantry ready for painting, just as soon as I buy some more after Easter - the ones I had contain too many russian infantry armed with SMGs, and too few armed with rifles.

Hi Mark,

The short answer is YES, you can play with pretty much anything. The missing link here is an army list - there isn't one out yet for Cossacks but, if you let me know what period I can try and help with that if you would like? It'd only be provisional, but it would get you going.

CoC Espana in the last Christmas Special also has some good cavalry rules, which ,ay be worth a look.

Kind regards,

Richard

Thanks Richard, I will take a look at the Xmas 2013 Special, as although I bought and downloaded, I have yet to properly read it.

Most likely I am going to want it around the mid-war period but if you have a late or early war version, I will gladly take it and use it.

Right, I have submitted a list to Rich for his consideration and, hopefully, publication in due course. However, as a starter, I would say I have found nothing to indicate a different organisation to regular cavalry and they come out as follows:

Option 1.
PLATOON FORCE RATING:

Green: -7
Regular: -4
Elite: 0

Elite should be aggressive, regular also count as aggressive when mounted.

Command dice: 5

a. A HQ – a Senior Leader armed with a pistol.
b. Two Sections of 8 men each comprising a Junior Leader with an SMG, an LMG with 2 crew and 5 riflemen (if mounted, add 2 riflemen).

Note: You can choose to field 2 such platoons. If you do, they are +1 force rating for Regular and +6 for Elites. These do not come with a senior, squadron level leader. If you take one, the Force Ratings become +2 and +8 respectively.

Option 2 (only from Feb 43)
PLATOON FORCE RATING:

Green: -6
Regular: -1
Elite: +3

Elite should be aggressive, regular also count as aggressive when mounted.

Command dice: 5

c. A HQ – a Senior Leader armed with a pistol.
d. Two Sections of 8 men each comprising a Junior Leader with an SMG, an LMG with 2 crew and 5 men with SMGs. (if mounted, add 2 men).

These are only provisional and the full version has all the support options, special rules etc, but I hope this is a good start.

Shout if you need more!!

I know this is an old thread but new to CofC and really interested in fielding a Cossack unit. Are there any support lists anywhere to go with these lists?

Cheers
