Finally this one shows the kilt cover in all its glory!

Stretcher bearers of the 1st Glasgow Highlanders, 52nd Lowland Division in France, 13 June 1940.

Don't worry Baron you are generially correct, by June 1940 most Scottish units had packed the kilt away. The last recorded use of the kilt in combat was the Camerons as above.

There are pictures of the 51st HD wearing them later at the surrender but no firm evidence they were actually worn during the fighting. Mind you it is possible as they realised they were being sacrifice for Churchills politics they disobeyed the order too. 🤔

PS It is enough though to justify painting some up , still trying to decide between Westwind or the more heroic Bob Murch figures.

Which Westwind figures did you have in mind? All of a sudden I have an image of a 51st HD platoon c 1940 to complement the 1944 version I have ;)

They are the same posses as their 1940 riflemen but with kilts - only problem is no other figures so would have to convert or buy some Pulp - not sure if they would mix though
Did see a chap in US with complete Highland platoons but P&P is a bit of a killer for just one section.

I emailed them about that and they sent me one - but didn't bother to put it up on their website!
Will see if I can find it

Also , the Westwind stuff doesn't seem to have the option for heads other than helmets, and if teh Cameron Highlanders were bolshie enough to retain their kilts, I wonder whether they would have used helmets or other headgear?

Well the paintimg shows helmets but I don't honestly know would need more research.

Personally I would be tempted to give NCO's different headgear just to make them easier to recognize.
