French or Americans (or Russkies...)
Hi All,
I'd like to ask for some advice.
Up until now, I have been playing British and German in France 1940.
I want to build a new army, and I'd like to try something that will give me a new tactical challenge. For logistical reasons, I am going to stick with the Germans - they are early war, but with added Panzerschecks and a couple of new tanks I can make them work for most of the war.
So, I need a new enemy for Jerry. My current thoughts are:
1940 French
1944 US Army
or
Early/mid-war Soviets, but I'll need slightly different scenery.
Which force will give me the most interesting tactical challenge?
Cheers!

My 2c Soviets.
Also like the Germans with a few different support choices thay can be used over most of the war.

Also, they managed to piss off half the world at one time or another so you'll always have opponents on any front....Truscott Trotter wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:41 pm

If you do those Siberian division soldiers with their winter hats and Americans, you could squint a bit and do the Korean war as well. Just do both is what I'm saying.

Soviets will definitely give a new tactical challenge. Their single “team” squads call for careful command decisions. They lack multiple senior leaders, so both Shock management and command initiatives give them issues. Their low platoon cost also allows for more support choices, giving them more toys to play with but compounds their command issues.

However, another thing if using all the lists available - some out and a lot to come you can have as well as you basic infantry
Scout Platoons
Assault Engineer Platoons
Militia platoons
Naval Bgde
Paratroops
Penal Battalion
Fortified platoons
Cavalry
Tank Riders

Thank you all. It might be Soviets, then.
The Caucasus would be an interesting campaign - Panzer IIIs against Lend-Lease M3s. It would give me an excuse to do a platoon of Gebirgsjager too...

+1 for Soviets. If you've got a "grey tanks and jackboots" German force you can just get Barbarossa ('41-'42) Soviets and you're good to go.
Also a very different force tactically and heaps of epic battles to hang your campaigns on. Loads of fun!
