I think Greg was after background as well as names.
Short of making them up yourelf I would google some French commanders of 1940's and steal their biographies.

Definetly include certain sergeant Baguette, corporal Camenbert and general Gruyere!

I'm going to get snippy for a minute. As a Francophile, I take issue at names like "camembert" or "gruyere".
Here are some names from Jean Larteguy's novels: Major de Glatigny (of distinguished military heritage), Captains Esclavier, Boisfeuras, Lieutenants Merle, Pinieres, Orsini (Corsican)
From the French women's football team: Renard, Torrent, Henry, Thiney, Lesommer
From Indochina: Allaire, LePage, Trapp, Rinasson, Sieurs, LeGrand, Vaillant.

OK, so they lost to the U.S. So did England. Here are some names from the Mens' side, the current holders of the World Cup: Deschamps, Lloris, Pavard, Digne, Griezman, Giroud

Silly names are part of the fun for a lot of people. It's a game with toy soldiers. People give them to French, or British, or Americans, or Russians. And definitely to zee Germans!Groupe_Franc wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2019 2:19 amI'm going to get snippy for a minute. As a Francophile, I take issue at names like "camembert" or "gruyere".
In our group we don't bother giving the little toy soldiers names in CoC, but some people do and it's just a bit of fun.

Have to agree with Seret. Most of my Sharp Practice French Leaders are named after varieties of bread, while their British counterparts are named after puddings with Lt. "Spotted Dick" Blunt leading the Rifles and Lt. Cranachan and Captain Trifle in charge of the Regulars. I can also do serious names when the scenario requires it.Seret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:32 amSilly names are part of the fun for a lot of people. It's a game with toy soldiers.
