Establishing Character Backgrounds for French

Post by redmist1122 » Thu Jul 04, 2019 12:23 am

With the release of the latest PSC, "Taking The Gembloux Gap"; which has a French force in the campaign against the Germans, there is no French characteristics listed in "At the Sharpe Edge" Handbook.

Any word on one becoming available?

My son and I had started this PSC and we typically establish character backgrounds.

Thanks.

For my early war Fallschirmjäger platoon, I simply Googled "pre-war German (and Austrian) directors", and used their birth places & their fathers' occupations as the backgrounds for my unit leaders (I use post war directors for my Late War Germans). I'm pretty sure that you could do something quite similar for all of the combatants.

Was going to suggest using the cast of 'allo 'allo but Oozeys suggestion is more sensible

I get the name thing, but was looking for more "French" background as listed in ATSE under pages 29-32.

Greg, why don't you email Nick Skinner - he seemed to have some nice backgrounds for his French on the Lard TV vid?

You'll find it enlarged, gilded and framed, and hanging above your bed when you stay at the ooze'ouse for MOAB later this year.

(Not that I'm one to rub it in, or anyfink ..... )

Do you really need a table? Just make something up. Bonus points for silly names and outrageous stereotypes.

if you're struggling for inspiration, find a French book or movie and start nicking names and backgrounds out of it.

One friend uses cheeses, another uses Del-boys French malapropisms from "Only fools and horses...."
