Rifleman - but what gun?
Hi there again guys.
Looking at the various Army list, but specifically the German lists, I'm a bit at a loss by the fact that only the machine gun used by the teams gets identified, any other member is considered a Rifleman. But what exactly what kind of "Rifle" are they using in each list? When can we consider the use of Assault rifles, for instance, and if in use what kind of impact will it have on the rate of the army

When you have a list for volkgrenadiers for maybe Ardennes. There is a PSC that might have them already out and Seret in his tinyhordes site might have a list too

Re: Rifleman - but what gun?
The default rifle in CoC is a standard bolt action rifle. These are all handled with the same stats so not differentiated in the troop lists. Generally troops with something other than a bolt action rifle will say what they are armed with, e.g. US troops with M1 Garnad or M1 Carbine which are both classified as semiautomatic rifles. For German lists, I would assume that the standard rifle is a KAR98K where not otherwise more specifically listed.

Re: Rifleman - but what gun?
Chris he just wants a unit of German Assault rifles.....a fairly common question.
Problem is the only units to even get close to full issue (ie 2/3 at best) was the VG units and they is usually green /inexperienced.
IIRC on a similar post the cost of upgrading a few rifles per plt - post Normandy was discussed.

The issue is that as far as I can see that (riflemen) is the only option that appears on the German lists apart from the LMG. Although not very disseminated they were issued to 1st Infantry Division of Army Group South and 32nd Infantry Division of Army Group North. Volksgrenadiers made use of it.batesmotel34 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 10:05 pmThe default rifle in CoC is a standard bolt action rifle. If we added a "couple" of them to a squad how would it impact on the platoon rating?
Re: Rifleman - but what gun?
As has been said the German lists assume that the rifleman is equipped with a KAR 98. Assault rifles were relatively rare in Heer units.
If I recall correctly there is a list in one of the PSCs or other scenario article which allows the possibility of a platoon choosing a couple of Assault rifles for 1 Support point.
If you use the CoCulator an assault rifle at 2 points is twice the cost of a normal rifleman. Adding 2 assault rifles to each squad in a 3 squad platoon would increase the Force Rating of the platoon by 1.

Assuming they are regular?
Re: Rifleman - but what gun?
Yes, and considering assault rifles were only issued in any great numbers during the last few months of the war, I'd say you should definitely be looking at the Green option as well. The Germans were really scraping the bottom of the barrel by the winter of 44-45. Just look at their performance in the Ardennes.
For Green it would be +1 force rating per nine StG-44s.

The Bloody Bucket campaign includes Volksgrenadier OBs with assault squads armed with the Stg44 which you might consider using.
