Definitely the extra section. You'll use it loads, the engineers rarely.

You might want to look at a 6pdr gun, too. That will definitely see some table time. Don't forget that in 44-45 you've got options other than NWE, Eighth Army were in battledress by then, too.

Adjutant, then extra 2" mortar, followed by extra infantry section always gets my vote. A universal carrier, like most vehicles, is rarely necessary in my view.

The Adjutant is still useful when you have 2 Senior Leaders because you can then get both on table to allow the Sergeant to control the base of fire and support options while the PL leads the manoeuvre/assault.

...and the beauty of the adjutant is you don't even need to paint anything for it!

Well I agreee about the adjutant....but I actually have painted the figs....helps me remember I actually have one!

I like the Bren cartiers and in attack will often take a section of 2 in preference to a 4th rifle section as the extra mobility and LMG are gold IMHO.

PS Back on topic to start with you could just use some counters to designate engineer teams on ordinary infantry.

Any recommendations for German engineers, aka pioneers, in 1/72? Looking for Early War.

I have the Revell 1/72 pack but it’s pretty naff. No doubt AB produce some beaut figs in compatible scale but they were sold out by the time I got to the stand at Salute.

Contrarius - Under Fire Miniatures (G10 and G11). These guys are Marine Sturm Kompanie in greatcoats but it takes eagle eyes to spot the difference in the greatcoat in 1/72.

Ah, forgot. I have a minipack of those Zvezda pioneers. Not bad figures. Shame they’re so brittle - rifles and all long pointy bits keep breaking off my other Zvezda Krauts.

Will have to check out Under Fire. They do some really nice Poles for 1939 as well.

Thanks guys.
