AUFKLARUNGS SQUAD question

Post by tinfish » Wed May 29, 2019 11:47 pm

Curious as to how to actually field this one.

Four motorcycles with side‐cars transport the
reconnaissance squad of the Panzer
Reconnaissance unit. It has two LMGs with two
crew each and one rifleman, along with a five
man rifle Team. It is led by a Junior Leader with
an SMG.

So... how many teams is that? I can't imagine both lmg's and the lone rifleman are meant to make up team one.
So is it ;
team one lmg 2 crew, 1 rifle
team two lmg 2 crew
team three 5 rifles.

Or...
Team one, 2 lmg's 2 crew each and 1 rifle
team two, 5 rifles

I could even read it as
team one, 2 man lmg and rifle
team two, 2 man lmg and rifle
team three, 5 rifles.

It could even be
team one, 2 man lmg and 3 rifles
team two, 2 man lmg and 3 rifles

But that seems unlikely as it does state specifically that the 5 man rifle team is a actual team. It's not clear on the lmg's and lone rifle.

Any ideas?

It's generally the same as regular PzGs...

It also really matters what year/unit you are talking about

I would go with
team one, 2 man lmg and rifle
team two, 2 man lmg and rifle
team three, 5 rifles.

Where are you getting this list from?
In the BK book they are 1 LMG only
IIRC we had this discussion re LMG and MC troops before and the 2 LMG seems to have been 1941 onwards from the KtSn

Actually after rereading it I think it is 12 men (inc JL) in the squad as per
http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/kstn/kstn11121nov43.htm
It does not break them down into teams in this but I now think its either the three teams as I said above
or
Team one, 2 lmg's 2 crew each and 2 rifle
team two, 5 rifles

So from a tactical perspective, this means that the "driver" dismounts and fights as part of the squad/team, yes?

That was my first reading of it, although I wasn't sure it was 1 rifle, or 1 with each lmg. But a 2lmg team that can be activated on a 1 seemed insane. I can't think of any other instance of 2 lmg's being part of a team. Normally they each make their own team. Russian Guards don't really count as they don't do teams as such :)

I'd love to see Winter Storm updated at some point. Some things aren't all that clear, and I suspect the values are off in places. That squad comes in at 4 support points iirc. Rich once mentioned it ought to be 7.
