Mortar Teams rolling Double 1s

Post by redmist1122 » Tue Mar 19, 2019 4:17 am

So we all know the rule about rolling double 1s...you're out of ammo. Got it. Now what about the French 60mm Brandt Mortar rolling double 1's. This bad boy rolls 3 D6s. In our game last week I roll a 1,1,5. So did the mortar ran out of ammo? If so, which ammo type? This particular mortar has both smoke and H.E. rounds. :?:

Thanks.

Yes it ran out of whichever type it was firing when it rolled double ones
It does seem slightly unfair that a 60mm mortar runs out of ammo is 16/216(7.4%) Vs 1/36(2.7%) for a 50mm mortar

Oh I assumed the double ones were when you rolled two dice, I would have had triple ones for rolling three. I've only experienced the US 60mm mortar which has a 5 man team - to me that means more ammo and more runners able to resupply it.
No basis in the rules just the gut feeling from reading your post!

Rolling triple 1's is 1/6x1/6x1/6 = 1/216 = 0.4% chance of running out - ie once per every 5 years of game play!

We ended up playing it as completely out of both ammo.

Well you could play it that way - and a few light mortars only have one type of ammo anyway, but I cannot see them running out of two different types of ammo at precisely the same time :? :geek:

TT,
True. I guess a different way to look at it is, whatever type was being rolled for, that's what has actually ran out...he or smoke.
