QRS Vs Rulebook

Post by Sclarino »

Hi guys just a quick question. The QRS I dow loaded sometime ago has a row on the "Bad things happen" chart for rolling when you lose a Command die. I dodnt see this in my rule book anywhere. Which is correct?

Never heard of that. Follow the rule book. I'm always cautious when someone else make a cool looking QRS...you have to cross-check them or you'll be all screwed up in game play.

You can contact the author of the QRS and identify the issue...maybe an over sight or maybe a house rule. That's another issue in itself.
Or, you fix it yourself and/or make one yourself.

Hope that helps.

There are some items in the (excellent) QRS relating to the Big Chain of Command supplement and this is one of them. Ignore for plain vanilla games.

Wow! Has it been that long since I've played BIG Chain of Command???

Yup, the loss of a "Command Dice" will trigger Bad Things happen.

Hrm. That sounds.... odd.
Because loss of a command dice is the RESULT of a BTH.
Which in turn triggers a BTH.
Which then may cause the loss of another command dice
Which triggers a BTH.....

Yes in theory it could have a cascade effect and lead to a sudden collapse but only applies in Big Chain of Command games. As I recall while each platoon has to test, Rich has confirmed previously that you only test once. So if a second platoon loses a Command Dice as a consequence of its BTH test then it doesn’t trigger another immediate round of tests.

And the immediate feedback loop doesn't exist, because it's only the other platoons that make the BTH roll, not the one that triggered it by losing a command dice in the first place.

It's just a way of modelling the same morale effect on the overall force that the BTH roll represents to an individual platoon, without an extra level of morale or a lot of extra rules.

Cheers,
Jim
