What Sources Are Folks Using For Western Theatre OOBs?

Post by John Thomas8 » Mon Sep 23, 2013 5:37 am

I'm interested in gaming battles that don't involve Virginia as the battle ground. There's some interesting fights out west of the Appalachians but tracking down OOBs is.....interesting. Anyone have any sources?

TIA

I'd be interested as well. I picked up Regimental Fire and Fury Scenarios 1861-1862 that I will convert to Elephant. About half of the 16 scenarios are in the West. Can't say much more than it looks nice at this point.

I can only recommend Paul D Stephenson's scenario books 1 & 2 for 'Guns at Gettysburg' (Partisan Press) available from Caliver Books.

I've used them for many of our TCHAE games.

I've seen that title before, but I did not want to do the 1 billionth Gettysburg scenario. Thanks for pointing out they can be actually useful.

Yeah, 'Guns at Gettysburg' is just the name of the rules which are basically ACW General De Brigade.

The scenario books are excellent for Elephant though. Of a similar scale with good maps, details of the historical action and suggestions/what if's.

They also do 'Stonewall' and 'On To Richmond' Eastern theatre games.

I started collecting them after Daz recommended them to me when Elephant first came out.

Good start. There's not much interest around my neck of the woods for Eastern battles (except Gettysburg) but some of the folks have expressed interest in Western scenarios. I find them interesting too and anything to get Elephant out in public is fine by me.

The boss says I have to dump some of my WWII 20mm kit before adding something else to the pile. :o

Charge! magazine is a very useful source. The PDFs are available here. The magazine is primarily focused on the Johnny Reb rules, but it's the same scale as TCHAE, and the scenarios are easily converted.
