Basing your leaders

Post by LeadButterfly » Sat Apr 16, 2016 1:04 pm

So I bought some warbases 20mm bases and regiment trays for my rank and file, but not sure how to base the leaders. Do people normally go just a little larger to distinguish them (say 30mm) or more go for a little diorama, (40 mm or larger).

New to the game, so not sure if the leaders are killable and such and therefore should have a similar board presence to a troop, r are more "markers" that are not actually engage-able and you can just do whatever you want for basing?

They can be killed. They need to be easily distinguishable, but basing is not that important.
What I do is base them like my other troops and stick them with blu-tack to a plastic rectangle which has the big man number and a little dice showing his status. This makes leaders easy to pick out, and also allows you to change which figures you use.

Greetings

I think Rich is basing the leaders on 2p coins - about 25mm? I picked up some war bases trays to test out today.

I base my leaders on hexagonal bases from Warbases:

Idea pinched from Sidney at Roundwood's World.

Ordinary troops on 1p's, foot leaders on 2p's.
Haven't quite decided what to base cavalry and mounted leaders on yet. Suggestions welcome :D

I base most of my lesser leaders (Status I and II) on 25mm round bases. On the Status III and IV, I tend to mount on 40mm square bases to make them stand out, and big enough that I can put a 8 or 10mm die on them with the figure.

I have a related question. I have some very nice mounted (on horseback) field officers for my Russians. Can I use them for my foot troops? Perhaps to be the leader of the entire force?

I'm completely new to Sharp Practice and new-ish to Napoleonics.

Yes, of course.
I often have the senior leader for a force mounted.
