Far East British platoon for the Far East (the early years)
Following my post about putting together my Japanese platoon here's the first instalment on the British and Commonwealth platoon that will cover the early stages of the war in The Far East. Next week we will be starting the campaign 'Last Stand on Opium Hill' that Mark Backhouse wrote for Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy magazine (it's in issue 101). It's a short four map campaign set in Singapore and will be a first outing for the platoon.

Great job as usual, I am not sure if I would have the personal stamina to paint up 2 platoons in the 2 different colours. I really like how you have a mix of figures, interesting about the Foundry, I always forget that they have a 20mm line of WWII figures. I have the Japanese painted up. I have a bunch of figures for the Allies, I think maybe Australian which I will have to look at. I think they are a combo of Fantassin and Eureka. I am going to wait for the handbook to come out, I think though.
It took a lot of work to find that 2pder, I have the same one in my early British force for 1940.
Really nice job!

You mention that the Stuarts of 7th Armoured Brigade were the first British tanks to see action against the Japanese in the Far East, but I have a feeling that there might possibly have been Vickers VI light tanks (Bs and Cs) around in the fighting that led to the capture of Singapore. Perhaps our Far East "guru" Len T might know?
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

I thought that might have been the case but I can find no evidence. The original plan for the defense of Singapore was based on air and sea power and a land war was not expected, so tanks may not have been considered a requirement. I have some kits of those tanks, so if I’d be happy to be shown otherwise.

Interesting discussion here. Malaya mentioned but not confirmed. I’ll investigate further.
