28mm MDF Buildings for Normandy
Folks,
While we are on lockdown, I’ve been working on getting stalled projects completed and for me that includes forces for Operation Martlet & Scottish Corridor that have been sitting unpainted for, well, years. Now the problem is Terrain for Normandy, or more specifically, Buildings.
So who would you recommend getting them from (Sarissa, Charlie Foxtrot, etc)?
Would Normandy buildings from Sarissa and Charlie Foxtrot (and anyone else I’m missing) go well together or should I stick with a single maker?
Thanks for any advice you guys can give. The postal increase (which I was blissfully unaware of) is about to hit, so ordering needs to happen soon.... lol
Thanks!
Ed

Hi Ed,
I would recommend you look at Empires at War
https://empiresatwar.co.uk
They've got some very nice buildings, reasonably priced, can be supplied pre-painted (and indeed pre-assembled), and the service is excellent. If you want wrecked buildings he also does wrecked versions of most of his intact buildings, and village bundles of 5-6 wrecks at a bargain price. I used these buildings for our Op Martlet PSC also and they have a good sized footprint for the ones in those maps.
Charlie Foxtrot is also good, friendly, service. In my experience though his buildings need a little more finishing than the 'Empires' ones. Sarissa, perfectly nice buildings but not cheap and need a bit of work to get past that MDF look.

EC,
Thanks for that as Empires at War was not on my radar. I’ll go take a look now!
Surprisingly, Sarissa often works out to be cheaper than the other options when ordering from the US due to their flat rate shipping. I don’t think that’s going to change, so really if I’m going to order things from anyone else, bows the time...
Thanks!

Depending on how much you want to do to them - and Sarissa and Charlie Foxtrot are basically table ready once assembled, I often prefer cheaper more basic kits. I would be tarting up even the Sarissa/CF kits anyway, so it makes sense to me to start with a more basic model. YMMV of course.
I use Warbases, Hoka Hey, Mango Terrain, and various others.

Mango terrain?
Never heard of them.

I know I’m finding out about several companies that I didn’t know existed. We are spoiled for choice in terrain now!

I got my 15mm banque generale from mango. It's okay, but Kristoff Designs does awesome prepainted.

If you are in the US I can recommend Black Site Studios. I have buildings from Sarissa, 4Ground, and Empires at War, and Black Sites Buildings fit in well. They are preprinted, and very sturdy, and priced well for the US market. Shipping will probably put them out of budget if they have to cross an ocean.

I’ve got stuff from Empires at War, he’s a great person to trade with, very fair and efficient.
Plus, apparently his buildings are based on actual buildings in the Normandy region at the time.
He also does back yards and privy’s something that can really bring your table to life!
