Jungle Build nearing completion, thank goodness

Post by DougM »

So, inspired by Rich and The Tactical Painter, I decided to tackle a Malaya campaign build, and what do you need for Malaya? Jungle, lots of it. so I happily jumped in feet first with a plan to make enough bamboo, secondary and primary jungle to pretty much cover a 6 x 4 table. It's now nearing completion.

Still some final touches to add, creeper/vines, perhaps some flocking and final highlights. Once that's done, it's back to painting the platoons and supports.

Thanks guys. All battles will be fought in the middle of the day unless I go back and gloss varnish for the wet look.

Pretty happy with this build to be honest.

Yes have been reseaching rubber trees for awhile and lookinhg at avaiable model trees.

Have given up. Gonna do palm plantation instead

Nothing I can find is even close.

Rubber plantations were a major terrain factor in Malaya and parts of Burma - more than Jungle even.

I've also been looking at pictures of rubber plantations, and the trees just look like straight european types, or possibly pale barked eucalypts. My intention is to use the tree armatures from woodland scenics, and just populate the top of the tree with rubberised horse hair and flock. My alternative is to use some actual sticks (cost saving), and similarly add the foliage.

I'm just not sure how to base them up. they should all be in straight lines, but single rectilinear bases seem very inflexible.

"pale barked eucalypts"
Funny you should say that cos that was my impression too - especially the younger plantations were they are only 15-25 ft high
If you find any like that let us know :D

Have been giving this some thought too, was thinking 3 or 4 in a row on a base then you could make different sized plantations
Will need 40-50 trees methinks

Thanks John, high praise coming from you. I am still hoping to see photographs of the Cancon layouts, did anyone manage to get some good shots?
