ACW Confederates for TSS

Post by Chris Gilbride »

Finally managed to finish a couple of 12 man ACW units. Taken me almost 2 years, what with one thing and another, but now they're done.

Now to start that 3rd 12 man unit ... and then the Yankies.

Perry plastics. Very nice figures. Easy to put together. Should be easy to paint, and in the normal course of things would be. But 2 years is a long time, even for me. :-)

Unfortunately it's not just ACW. :-)

I now find myself not only with a lead mountain, but a plastic mountain too. I'm sure it's not suppsoed to work like that. And if I'm not careful, I'll have a full set by ending up with a "Whatever-the-hell-the-3D-printed-things-are-made-from" pile also.

I will NOT succumb to the ECW hysteria that will no doubt begin once ITB gets closer to release. No sir. I won't. I refuse. I will survive. :?

Just a box of each to see what they look like can't do any harm....

I don't know what it is because I'll put together WWII tank and plane kits without even thinking about it but the thought of putting together figures is intensely off-putting.

But then I look at these figures and they're really appealing.

I got into wargaming many years ago from the modelling side of the hobby.
Eventually I got fed up of sticking things together and so got more into the wargaming. I've too many metal figures unpainted lying around. The beauty of these plastics is that they're cheap compared to the metal equivalent, so if I don't paint them for 2 years, it's not too much money lying on a shelf.
With the Pery stuff, for most of them the only thing to stick on is the hat, a choice of kepi thing or floppy hat thing. That's just the right amount to give some variation. :-)
The Victrix stuff o nthe other hand is arms, legs, heads, backpacks ... it was like making a small Historex kit all over again. :-(

Just finished the last 12 man unit. Also managed to do a couple of big men and a drummer.

This lot went a lot quicker than the last group, mind you anything is quicker than 2 years.

I tried something a little bit adventurous (for me) with one of the big men, wanting the hat-on-the-sword appearance of Armistead in the film Gettysburg. The number of times the top part broke off, I shouldn't have bothered. And won't next time.

Anyway a few photos.

Something of a minor disaster when basing them. I discovered that 1p and 5ct are not quite the same size. At least not near enough to fit into the nice Warbases I had purchased. Next visit to the UK I'll be bringing enough back with me.

I may have to re-read the rules one of these days. Next up the Union guys, unless the Winter War stuff suddenly arrives. :o
