Chaps we seem to suffering a plague of spammers in recent months.

Perhaps the powers that be could look to more stringent counter measures?

Perhaps all people wanting to register sgould have to answer a question first?

Something like:
Q. "What is Richard Clarkes favorite alcoholic beverage?"
A. C------ L----

Spam is a plague on these boards that's difficult to avoid. Spam bots are now smart enough to break most captcha spamblockers apart from the ones that use graphics recognition. On my boards registration is set for administrator confirmation per user with email alerts. I then check the source address and allow it if it looks genuine. It's a pain but it's necessary at times.

Spam hits all of my boards in sequence as a batch then goes quiet for a while. It's almost always from a Russian IP address with the occasional batch from China.

All you can do is keep the patches and release versions up to date and use a captcha mod with graphic recognition rather than text.

Yes it's irritating if they are there when you log in, but I wouldn't say it's unusable. Between them Monty and Big Rich zap them pretty quickly, but they do operate on UK time so I can imagine it's worse if your logging in from Oz or the US.

Moderating a new users first posts might help if someone other than Big Rich could do that.

I find it slightly ironic that the spam thread just got hijacked by a spammer.
Only an idiot fights a war on two fronts. Only the heir to the throne of the kingdom of idiots would fight a war on twelve fronts.
