Potential new player - CDS Army Lists

Post by Len Tracey » Tue Apr 19, 2016 10:46 am

I'm looking at these rules for Vietnam gaming but have a couple of questions regarding army lists.
Does the game's army lists include:
ROK Army
ROK Marines
Thai Army (Queen's Cobras)
Australian Army

Do the rules cover such units as SAS patrols, LRRP, Advisors (e.g. AATTV), Nung mercenaries, Montagnards?

Are civilians represented in the rules and is "collateral damage" taken into account?

I'd appreciate any help with these queries.
Thanks

ROK Army - No
ROK Marines - No
Thai Army (Queen's Cobras) - No
Australian Army - Yes, as an ANZAC list

As the rules are aimed at company-level I’d suggests that some of these formation would only feature as part of a larger force. If they wouldn't have operated at this level CDS may not be the appropriate level of game for actions involving them.
SAS patrols - Stat are included but no organisation details or list
LRRP - Stat are included but no organisation details or list
Advisors (e.g. AATTV) - These are included within the lists for Civilian Irregular Defence Force (A-Teams)
Nung mercenaries - No
Montagnards - Not by name but could use Civilian Irregular Defence Force or Regional and Popular Forces lists

Are civilians represented in the rules and is "collateral damage" taken into account?
Yes, civilians are represented. It depends on what you mean by "collateral damage". Civilians can be killed by accident and intentionally. Depending on the circumstances this can have an effect on the Political outcome of an action rather than a purely military.

Hope that answers your questions. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Always amazed by how many books, documentaries and wargames on the second Vietnam War leave out the Republic of Korea forces. With a full Infantry division, a Marine brigade, and supporting units, they were the second largest overseas contingent in the war. They also fought very well and were feared by the communist for their thorough (and at times brutal) efficiency. They deserve a lot more attention.
