No it doesn't block the defenders at all.
(Unless while charging you can take a tree with you!😀)
Try it in real life and see
You can see the moving attackers before they see you big advantage in a fire fight.

Thinking about this some more I have to disagree with Rich's response.
The biggest give away in close terrain is movement.
The attacker is moving not the defender.
Therefore the defender is hidden the attacker is not.
So the advantage of terrain is still with the defender in my opinion.

In real life men were moved within a platoon at the whim of the Plt Commander quite often.
