Re: Demoralisation levels

Very interesting discussion - I was not aware how historically the French extensively deployed additional battalions into skirmish lines as David described. Up until now I have just imposed limits on how many battalions can be "skirmishized" in a game, with higher numbers for French or later Prussia...

Re: Demoralisation levels

Hi Mark, This is far from an official ruling - but it seems only reasonable that you must base the Morale level of a brigade on its size at the beginning of the game. Stating the obvious, morale tracks the will and ability of soldiers to fight based on their losses - regardless if those losses occur...

Skirmishers and Garrisons

Gentlemen, It took me 12 days but here's my first set of rules questions for 2019. The rules allow skirmishers to be in BUAs to gain cover but only close order infantry can garrison a BUA. Some questions. 1. can skirmishers in a BUA still fire out as a garrison does or is the skirmish line too broke...

The link above is to an excellent home-made version of the rules for the American Rebellion which can be tweaked for other 18th Century conflicts. Not ideal for the Crimea, though.

Re: Multiple Charge clarifications

Archduke, Great explanation of the rationale for the Massed Column rules. And yes, I've played rules in which the entire point of the game was for the French player (the attacker 80% of the time) to launch one, two, three units in 3 columns against a single defender - hoping to survive closing fire ...

Re: Multiple Charge clarifications

Thanks Archduke - I know I have asked about multiple charges before - now my legal team and I will sort through your answer - which had to be long given my multi-headed question. As a backgrounder to all this it is interesting that David chose to allow formations in line or line AND column to launch...

Multiple Charge clarifications

Sirs, This is a big post, I'll admit. GdA has become the go-to Nappy rule set for our club. We have played the rules over at least 15 sessions (often 2 sessions for a single big battle) and continue to feel more comfortable with the depth of the rules. That said, the one very important section of th...

Re: Starting 15/18mm Napoleonics

Contrarius makes a great point. As long as you do the facings and trim the same colours, you can paint batches of 48 figs with 4 to a stand - and then choose to have 3 4-stand battalions or 2 6-stand battalions depending on your space and needs

Re: Starting 15/18mm Napoleonics

Congratulations on your entry into GdA and PC in 15mm. And allow me to offer one other option to consider that will offer several very real benefits - choosing to use smaller battalion sizes of 4 stands instead of 6 stands as you described. The advantages: 1. you will be able to get more units onto ...

Re: Homemade Cheat Sheet

Vlad, we don't really have forum rules. I DO object when people produce an 8 page QRS which is, effectively, the whole rules. The truth of the matter is that most rule sets are really no more than 12 pages long, but the other 60 pages are just dotting i's and crossing t's so that we (try) to answer...
