understanding controlled fire

Sirs, I'm preparing to host an AWI game and want to understand the rules correctly - in this case the difference between controlled and uncontrolled fire. Are these understandings correct? 1. units combined in formation that fire and reload on the same turn are "uncontrolled" 2. formation units that...

Re: I have written a QRS for Sharp Practice 2

Andy,
I'll join the battalions that say this is a fabulous resource. It would be great to have a single page listing definitions of all troop characteristics - but not sure if that should be generally available.
Thanks again.

Re: Troop quality in fisticuffs

Okay, this is my final post on this issue - unless someone asks a question. It is of note since it effects the groupings/categories of how some units may be ranked (as in the table on page 55). Very simply, when you view the pdf final on the default screen size (178%) you get all the dividing lines ...

Re: Troop quality in fisticuffs

Gents, This could be a slightly cautionary tale to those using the pdf version of the rules. Looking at the file both on computer and ipad, I notice the lines dividing groups in the Troop Quality chart don't always appear. I have seen only a single line - so it appeared there were only 2 categories ...

Troop quality in fisticuffs

Sirs, Having a great time thumbing through the rules but have found my first question dealing with differences in troop quality in melee on pages 54-55. Do you actually count down for each and every troop type listed - eg Gun Crews are 14 lower than elites resulting in 28 extra dice (or elites 6 dic...

Re: two questions on flags/command cards

Replying to Richard H, you clearly can have very different results and needs in various games. Unlike your example, I had bad luck for several turns drawing actual Leader cards for activations, but the Flag cards helped fix that by allowing Units to play after the Tiffin was pulled. This alone is a ...

Re: Wrath of the Gods and other stuff...

As someone on the receiving end of Peabody's WoG bombardment, I did find it can be decisive in a game. In about 7-8 phases, we only managed to bring on 3 elements: a 2-man scout team using a 1, a support MG42 and finally a single squad. By basic odds the Germans only have a 33% chance to deploy troo...

Re: First Impressions at the club.

Looking back at this one, as one of the 2 German players, we made 2 tactical errors in this, our second game of CoC. One, we left an outgunned squad on our right flank in harm's way for too long. Pulling back behind woods when outmanned 3-1 was called for. Second, we waited too long to bring in our ...

Re: Deploy and Activate?

I wonder if someone can offer the background on the rule that allows a team/squad to deploy - and then fire at full effect. It's perplexing because on-table squads that move and shoot are correctly penalized for doing so (one-half dice). However, units rushing out of a marshaling area are allowed to...
