Re: Suggestions for US Marine special rules

I know this might be heresy in some quarters, but were marine troops really that much more effective than the average grunt? (the aggressive/stubborn thing is quite powerful). I wore the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor for a while and it isn't heresy to me. Stubborn is probably appropriate to reflect the ...

Re: Afrika Korps Metal 28mm Figures

I believe Warlord have recently done a plastic Commonwealth Infantry set in short sleeves with a variety of headgear, most of which should be suitable for the desert.

Edit: whoops, forgot you were talking German & metal specifically.

Re: Afrika Korps Metal 28mm Figures

The folks at Gaddis Gaming are very helpful, and have an *extensive* WWII range, including troops in tropical and winter gear for the majors and a number of minor nations. I met them in person at Adepticon last year, and their figures are well-proportioned and in a good mix of poses; including soldi...

Re: Many Rivers To Cross

I When we played it the same thing happened, so we had the Allies lose control of map 4 (since presumably the engineers still blew the culverts after the germans withdrew) and they had the option to counterattack back onto map 4, although in our case they were too shot up to risk it. You can justify...

It's a perfect coup de main and, as such, would be a terrible game.
Haha, yeah, the best ops probably do! Although it might make a decent prelude to other fighting as an intro.

Now you've got me thinking about an operational + tactical game around planning and executing raids like these...

Re: New to COC

The rules are written for individual figures, as combat and casualties are tracked individually, and units can split and form mid-game. However, some modest multi-basing will not get in the way of play, as the rules are not too specific about the location of individual models in a Team. All of the r...

Re: Clear Basing?

I've experimented a bit, but always find miniatures on clear bases to feel "separated" from the playing surface, and only use them for air/space games where that is the desired effect. The acrylic can catch light, especially through the edges as mentioned above, and techniques for knocking down the ...

Re: Crete pint sized campaign

I've got a copy of Crete 1941: The Battle for Heraklion by Yannis Prekatsounakis on my desk at the moment and it's a fascinating interweaving of personal accounts with the official records. The determination of the local population to resist is one of the notable differences from other early war act...

Re: Multiple Phases

Everyone I've played with drops a die from the pool for each consecutive phase. If we didn't, frankly, several of them wouldn't play Chain of Command. Multiple consecutive phases with full dice pools quickly leave everyone unsatisfied, since either you or your friend effectively stops being allowed ...

Re: Head Quarters Riflemen

I like the thoughts of special rules for ammo resupply and casualty recovery for the occasional scenario, I play in 15mm so end up with a lot of extra figures available for logistical conversions.
