Where else would the defender be if they have not been forced to withdraw from their position by the collapse of their Force Morale or by conducting a voluntary withdrawal? Can anyone point me to where it says that a draw leaves the defender in possession of the table in a campaign? I had skimmed At the Sharp End and didn't see anything like that.

You probably *want* the ambushing force to be inferior numerically. A lot of the time, ambushes aren't about destroying the whole enemy force, but about leveraging preparation and surprise as force multipliers to inflict disproportionate damage before withdrawing. Puttied up the gaps between the mdf sheets and sanded down the edges. Might request an Italian design from them soon, as I'm starting a Mediterranean project.
