Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

Tanks. Kubus – the PIAT mounting was in the fixed open turret of the vehicle, so probably not that great a stretch. The LMG mounting was in the bow lower down. Jas – later renamed Szary Wilk (Grey Wolf). Many photographs (eg in Ledwoch’s Warsaw 1). Unfortunately, they all show the vehicle before it...

Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

Hi TT. Re general organisation. I totally get where you are coming from - you want a unit that you can conceivably have a chance with in a wargame and clearly some better-armed units existed historically. My own tiny Napoleonic French army has a regiment of Imperial Guard Grenadiers, another of Guar...

Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

Finally IEDs of various kinds would have been an 'unpleasantness' practiced by both sides. The most notorious (and controversial) example was the Borgward IV explosion on Kilinski Street, killing approximately 300 insurgents and civilians. The vehicle was captured as it approached a barricade and wa...

Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

Some unusual gear and/or gear manufactured by the insurgents, crying out to be included in the list (in addition to the Type K flame thrower), in my warped imagination: 25x Lopuski 80mm grenade launcher (range up to 600m) 5x Knab's catapults and 1x crossbow, both types firing Molotov cocktails 4x 3"...

Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

Captured gear: - I have found no mention of an SdKfz 221 being captured although an ex-Soviet FAI was captured on the first day of the Uprising. Perhaps the two have got mixed up? - I have found no mention of a Pz IV, PAK 38 or 10.5cm howitzer being used by the insurgents - something I missed probab...

Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

Moving onto details :) Kubus: This was more an armoured infantry carrier (or perhaps even and ICV in modern parlance) - besides its crew of 2, it carried 10 infantrymen. It was geared up to mount a Soviet DP LMG and/or a PIAT. The Type K flame thrower was carried by one of the infantry squad and not...

Re: Draft list for Polish Home Army 1944

TT - Firstly, respect for tackling a very interesting but difficult subject. Please therefore consider my comments/suggestions/ questions in this light, especially as this subject I know very superficially - albeit in some cases from 1st hand accounts. The first thing that strikes me is the heavy ar...

Re: German Wehrmacht Uniform

No doubt some pics will be found to prove me wrong, but I would suggest that generally combat troops in France overwhelmingly wore dice beakers. What they did not wear in combat except in very rare circumstances was the 'mythical cartoon German' Y strap braces - as Seret's photo beautifully illustra...

Re: 1939-era Polish cavalry

Hi Contrarius. I have seen them..... I'm afraid they didn't tempt me as I still have a few of the old Miltra jobs and FtF have mumbled in the past about making them too, so I am happy to wait. I have only just noticed that i wrote this imbecility previously: Miltra make the best (in my opinion) 75mm...
