Re: Review of General d'Armee

I'm not concerned about the men to model ratio in my case. As the important elements of the game are formations and unit size, we have organised our units in terms of "bases" using what we had at hand in 20mm (bases for Principles of War rules). In that sense we agreed in the club to use 3,4 and 6 b...

Austerlitz book

I’m about to finish reading “1805 Austerlitz” by Robert Goetz. It’s an excellent account of both the campaign and the battle; specially the latter in very high detail and accompanied with lots of maps. It can provide endless materials to write scenarios for General d’Armee and I cannot recommend the...

Re: Faltering Brigade thoughts

I totally agree with John in relation to tactics.
Also, do not assault a fresh brigade, try to at elast soften a little bit with the artillery.
Charges and melees can be extremely bloody if attacking a solid unit

Re: Review of General d'Armee

Agree games are somewhat long.
But our own experience shows that as you progress with the rules they tend to shorten noticeably. In any case a minimum of three hours is required at least to play a full game.

Guareña River - July 1812 Peninsular Scenario

For those interested, I wrote a small contribution for the Xmas Special just released, in the form of a scenario for General d'Armee It's based on a small battle that took place a couple of days before Salamanca when the Allied Army was retreating towards the city from the banks of the Duoro River I...

Re: Review of General d'Armee

I have recently acquired Blucher but more interested in the campaign system than anything else, and whether it can be adapated to GdA.
Still resting unopened in my iPad until I get some spare time to concentrate in reading the rules

Re: Review of General d'Armee

I put the skirmish just as an example, not that I have a problem with it. My complaint is that micro-management of battalions (formations, orders, accounting of casualties, detail management of skirmish screens...) tend to both take a lot of time and distract from what the focus should be given the ...
