Re: SP2 AWI Swamp Fox game

Marvellous AAR - I never cease to be amazed by your terrain, and whilst not the biggest fan of smaller scales for skirmish-level games, your 15mm collection is to be envied. I have both of Chris's SP1 AWI supplements (both of which he is up-dating, I gather?) - I shall definitely be getting this SP2...

Re: Marksman and Bonuses

OK, I think I have a handle on this now; the question of the junior leader being a marksman simply came about from research suggesting that the NCO leading the scharfschutzen might occasionally have been the best shot in the group. Would it be more efficient for the leader to fire his own weapon as ...

Re: Marksman and Bonuses

Someone else has my copy of SP2 at the moment, I wonder could anyone tell me whether it is permissible to make a junior leader a marksman, or must he be one of the team? (Basically, I'm putting together a schutzen detachment from a Bavarian light battalion c.1809, which had a "scharfschutzen" (rifle...

You've got too many names Jim :-)
It's nomenclature, Jim, but not as we know it.

Re: Jungle bases for WWII Japanese?

Love the idea of lots of ground scatter and smelling nice is an added bonus. :) I appreciate that some of you come from the land that gave us "drier than a Pommie's towel", but I think it is a fairly universal constant within the hobby that anything which deflects from "eau de wargamer" is to be we...

Re: Lardy Oddcast Episode 6 now Available

Perhaps we should refer to it as "Schrodinger's Episode" as it could be either 6 or 7, but we won't know until we listen to it?

(Apologies to any real physicists who realise that I've completely misinterpreted the Schrodinger's Cat....errrmmm....thingummy doo-dah.)

Re: Cavalry firing

Ah, OK I misunderstood what you were saying there. I agree, now you've explained it at my level (ie trainee idiot).

(The French example was in Parquin's memoirs, where his regiment fired at Russian cavalry approaching at the walk during the battle of Eylau.)

Re: Cavalry firing

Not sure that is entirely accurate - some units were still being taught to try and break up charges by enemy cavalry with carbine fire; I can think of pre-1808 Prussian hussars as a general tactic; specifically, there is at least one example of French chasseurs a cheval doing it in early campaigns; ...

Re: Naval landing party...

Further to the reply by huevans, here are some notes I made on larger formations of British Marines during the 1790-1815 period. Throughout the FRev and Napoleonic wars, groups of Marines were removed from their ships and converged into larger formations for temporary service ashore as ordinary infa...
