Re: 29, Let's Go! campaign (updated 30 05 20)

Another great report, cinematic in its scope and as ever with its incisive commentary and judicious observations - it is great to see you both in action again - yet another blessing of Australia's flattened curve Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, we've been lucky here so far and as long as we don't let ...

Re: 29, Let's Go! campaign (updated 30 05 20)

Another tremendous write-up - thank you. Interesting point about the buildings not helping your defence. In one of the recent Oddcasts, Nick remarked that wargamers tend to be obsessed with occupying buildings, whereas in reality, troops tended to do what you did in this game, namely dig entrenchme...

Re: 29, Let's Go! campaign (updated 22 03 20)

With the easing of restrictions here in Australia it's been great to get back to some face to face gaming and more importantly get our 29, Let's Go! campaign up and running. The Americans cut through the Germans like a knife through butter in the last game, so can my Germans put up a stiffer fight t...

Re: Campaigns

I really enjoyed playing the Germans in the Road to Bremen. You are told from the start that you cannot win (it is 1945 after all), but it’s a wonderful challenge to see what you can manage with a motley and, at times, unreliable force. I think I referred to it once as finding a way to lose with sty...

Re: How many of my squad can fire, or how many figs per cm of front?

I think there’s a danger of overthinking it. I play in 20mm with figures on 20mm round bases, so even with bases touching that’s a minimum 6’ or call it approx 2m between each figure. So even when they appear bunched up, they are not really that close. I also consider it somewhat abstracted. In most...

Re: Campaigns

Hello, the various campaigns are inexpensive, but buying specific tanks and things for them can add up. Can anyone suggest a balanced one for playing cover to cover. So far I finished 29 lets go and gembloux gap and ejoyed both. But was a bit taken aback by lack of balance in von luck campaign, and...

Re: China Sino-Japanese war, 1930’s

This is an excellent selection of essays by historians from US and China, with much recent scholarship. It goes from big picture discussion right down to morale of particular divisions.
