Re: Resources for campaign South Pacific Theatre

Len Tracy noted that "most US units at the start of the Solomon Islands campaign were still armed with bolt-action rifles." What of the National Guard units that were deployed to New Guinea (32nd Division) or Guadalcanal (infantry regiments that landed beginning in October 1942? Were any equipped wi...

Re: French Colour Guide

Many years when I played FoW, I undertook to paint the French of 1940. I posed the question to the FoW forum about which Tamiya paints to use. I received the following response: "Normal Infantry use XF49 Khaki for the Trousers, Jacket, Overcoat and Puttees. Boots, Ammo pouches and associated straps ...

Goumiers in French Service 1942-44

The thread on Free French armored infantry reminded me of a matter concerning which I've occasionally meditated, namely the addition of a section of goumiers to a French force in Tunisia or Italy. Would it look basically like an infantry section? Any special rules? Have any of the local experts look...

Re: 25 Pounders in Chain of Command

At risk of clouding the issue, I wonder whether the Consolidated Arsenal AP value for the 25 pdr is for the Western Desert with some form of Heat round (or the like). Did the 18/25 pdr in France in 1940 have a Heat round? I'll admit that I don't know either way. The French 75mm (presumably with Heat...

9th Century Monasteries in Neustria

I'm slowly pulling together what I need for games and maybe a campaign in Neustria. The new 1940 supplement will slow things down but I think that, thanks to the Vikings series, I'll attract 2-3 people around here. The Abbey of St. Dymphna will often be involved. I have the buildings and am now wond...

Re: Humbers and Pumas and Stags, oh my

Speaking of the Panhard.... Does anyone have numbers for the vehicle's armor and # of strikes for the 25mm? It's a favorite of mine and I have 3 in the pipeline and would like to use one for our Christmas game.

Re: WW1 Cavalry fire arms

Granted this is negative "evidence" but I've only read references to cavalry using rifles being British, notably in Flanders in 1914. The British adopted the Enfield rifle thanks to Boer War experience. The cavalry of other continental armies did not have that experience.

Re: German Tanks in "What a Tanker"

Reminds me of a funny story about Command Decision. A member of a group was a fan of big German tanks and convinced the group to play a "if you own it, you may use it" so he could use his Maus. The Allies brought their Pershings, Comets, Churchills etc. They closed on the beast and took their losses...

Re: Iske ja murra!

About the Renault FT.... maximum armor was 22mm but top speed was slightly more than 4 mph. So I'm thinking that armor would be more like 3 but speed should somehow be less than Slow-maybe subtract 1 from each D6. They were armed with the same 37mm as the R35 and H35/39 so strike value of 3. My two ...

Re: Newbie to TMB

The Lardies' shop offers a couple of useful resources. *Stout Hearts and Iron Troopers* has a couple of 1914 scenarios which (presumably) offer guidance for the make-up of 1914 platoons. *Play the Game* is a compendium of articles from the Specials on WW1 as of mid-2015. Specifically there is an art...
