3 Para in Afghanistan

I’ve just started to read ‘No Way Out’ by Major Adam Jowett. Helmand July 2006 Major Jowett was put in charge of Easy Company, an under-strength unit of Paras and Royal Irish Rangers. There mission: to hold the district centre of Musa Qala at any cost. They found themselves in a ramshackle compound,...

Re: Mortars underpowered?

From what I’ve read, and that’s very little, but the Brit. 2pdr. AT round was effective against light and medium armour but the HE. Round was pretty useless. The same applied to the 2” mortar, as a smoke round it did the job but the HE round just wasn’t effective. The 3” mortar was a battalion level...

Re: Pistols for british Dragoon Guards in the Peninsular War?

I’ve not read that book, but a lot of years ago I bought “The Coward of Minden”,(I never read it) but it covers the incident at Minden supposedly by George Sackville. He was exonerated by a court marshal but it is said to have ruined him.

Spiteful lot generals and politicians.

Re: FAQ AND NEW EDITION

A 6 pounder Napoleonic gun would have Less than half the powder and half the weight of canister as many were brass barrelled pieces whereas a 12 pounder gun/howitzer like the Napoleon had a cast iron/steel barrel, the cast quality was far better the powder was better and I think that by this time so...

Re: Minefield shape

If I was laying a an a/t or vehicle minefield I would want it to funnel armour towards my guns. Anti personnel are different. Hidden mines in a ditch or behind a hedge/wall, inside a wood or dummy minefields. The Idea is to get infantry to worry about mines. takes more time but Using a length of cop...

Re: Pistols for british Dragoon Guards in the Peninsular War?

Randolph Churchill said of his after he failed the entry to Sandhurst. That he should join the cavalry as the entry examination wasn’t as strict. Having said that the British Army and Royal Navy have always taken an aggressive stance against an enemy. I seem to remember an Admiral being executed for...

Re: Pistols for british Dragoon Guards in the Peninsular War?

Perhaps it was how the officers were trained. Brit. Infantry officers were trained in drill and tactics and what was expected of them.
The same must have been the case for cavalry officers, though it may have been the culture in the mess at the time.

CoC patrol used with other games ?

I was wondering if the CoC patrol has been used by any one on the forum for use in other games?
Such as IABS Mum, SP2 or LFS.
It just seems a clever way to add chrome to a game.
