Re: Another ATSE Question: Supports

We record casualties on support units for post-game opinion effects. This stops people being too cavalier with the lives of their rent-a-squads. Leaders who don't look after their support units can often find themselves carrying some bad morale penalties late in the campaign. Actual support picks al...

Re: Soviet Reece Platoon question...

Richard, that sounds like an inferior senior leader to me. Two CIs like a JL but can command any unit.

Re: Sd.Kfz. 251/21 Drilling in CoC

Note that Clarke seems to have given it 10 *HE*, not 10 FP. After all it's a small, fast-firing machine cannon with exploding rounds. Yes, but larger autocannons (ie: 20mm) don't count as HE. They reduce cover but roll against troop quality like small arms. So the rules essentially treat HMGs and t...

Re: Universal Carriers ...again

I’m not sure if the JL would come along as the Ambush has to be by an ‘infantry team’ (p.23)? Well, the carrier platoon and it's NOCic were infantry... Personally I'd allow it. This kind of raiding and harassing was exactly the kind of thing carrier platoons did. They'd use their superior mobility ...

Re: New to the game. Entrenchments: Markers or Terrain Pieces?

For most armies you'll only ever need to have one section dug in plus a couple of support weapons like AT guns and SFMGs. So I always do an extra section of dug in troops when I'm making a new force for CoC. If you've been using plastics this is really easy to do, just chop em in half! You might eve...

Re: Scottish Corridor Universal Carrier Support

Three carriers was only a section, not a platoon, so I don't think giving it the free SL is right in this case. Late war carrier platoons were 13 (!) carriers, unlike most AFV platoons which were 3-5 vehicles.

Same here, deploy from a JOP just like the rest of your troops. It's a tank scrape and so camouflaged.

Re: So, erm...Universal Carriers...

The drivers wouldn't normally dismount, when the section was operating offensively their job was to provide security for the carriers. Re: Ambushing with soviet squads

The general perception is that the soviets were more rigid and had few initiative, and maybe that should be the case in the early war period, but in the late war be more complex. There's an element of truth to it, but from everything I've seen or read it wasn't really at the squad to platoon level ...
