What would cause you to withdraw from the table?

I’m working on a table that I might turn into an article. Obviously we’ve been bagging a lot of Hun solo these days, although I must confess that’s often how I played beforehand. At any rate, inspired with talks of solo gaming on the Odd Cast, I’m trying to build a table for an opposing force that w...

Re: A more elegant solution to the Zero-Sen?

The playtesting continues. I’m not happy with the above. I’d like to have any aircraft with no more than 1 rule to remember, the above basically has 2. AND I’d like to capture the specific flavor of the Japanese pilots and their Zero. So next I’m going to try the following… A6M pilots get to an addi...

Re: Finest hour supplement

I include the No Fuel To Duel card as well, but it doesn't become a factor that often. I'd include either a turn limit, or some sort of "if this many fighters are damaged or downed, we'll withdraw" conditions. You could even have different withdraw criteria on different cards based on aggressive or ...

Re: A more elegant solution to the Zero-Sen?

So simpler is better, thus I've paired down the above to the following for the A6M (all versions): Gets a +1 on Break Turn altitude adjustment roll; -1 to staying on the tail roll against a defender in a hard dive. That's a little wordy to make it into the margins, but you get the idea. There is one...

A more elegant solution to the Zero-Sen?

So did F4Fs versus Zeros this morning. I won’t go into details, but it didn’t quite capture the reality I was trying to model. But after thinking it over during a run (I live in Texas so I can run outside as long as I stay 1 alligator length away from my neighbors, I do more alligators as a courtesy...

What to do about Zero (Sen that is) or what to do about the Hineri-Komi … your thoughts?

So I’m tooling up for some Pacific War gaming, mostly A6M “Zero” versus F4F Wildcats. As usual I’ve done way too much reading and it has led me to overthink the whole thing as usual. So currently all marks of the Zero in BTH get the “Tailing a/c get -1 to stay on tail in Break Turn”. This makes sens...

Re: Gun Pods

I have treated them as loaded in the past, but my research has shown that I may be penalizing them too much, especially with regards to speed. So currently I’m not lowering their speed, but knocking their MAN rating down by 1. That should be enough to put them at a disadvantage against an unencumber...

The right amount of Flak & Targets

I’m setting up an attack on an airfield by fighter bombers scenario. Based on experience, what is the right number of light (or heavy I guess) flak positons to set up versus 6 fighter-bombers and their associated escort for a good game balance? How many targets should said fighter-bombers have to de...

Re: Spotting on Bonus Cards

Thanks for the feed back. I'm always worried when designing scenarios and playtesting them at home that I'm interpreting the rules different from everyone else. Thanks.
