Re: IABSM version 2 or 3?

Thanks for all of your contributions. Glad to hear that many still appreciate IABSM. My experience of CoC is limited and I much prefer the game mechanics in IABSM for battles involving more support weapons. I can see the appeal of CoC as the number of miniatures needed etc is much reduced compared t...

Re: Pickett's Charge Franco Prussian war adaptations.

Proposed Additional ADC for FPW 'Fold in the Ground' may be given to any cavalry unit with a cost of 1 ADC. Cavalry are able to ride along a fold in the ground and are therefore more difficult to hit, - 2 to hit dice modifier. May only be used once per game. This gives cavalry a slightly better chan...

Re: IABSM version 2 or 3?

I knew that IABSM preceded CoC by many many years, but my point was that as players have used CoC, has it changed their outlook of IABSM. From your post it seems that many modifications have been proposed for IABSM to encompass CoC mechanisms which suggests that players are less satisfied with IABSM...

Re: Pickett's Charge Franco Prussian war adaptations.

Sorry Dave, Just read back my post back to realise it was rubbish! The shock of that armoured train obviously got to me. What I meant to write was that GdA and PC have the same ground scale 3" to 50 yards (in 25mm) and you mentioned reducing this. What ground scale did you eventually trial, was it a...

Re: Pickett's Charge Franco Prussian war adaptations.

Dave. Ah the things we get up to during lockdown! I've just finished an armoured train that I have had for more years than I care to remember! Was very interested in you using PC for FPW. You mentioned a difference in ground scale, PC is 3" to 50 yards whereas GdA is 1" to 40 yards (in 25mm) so I pr...

Re: IABSM version 2 or 3?

Hi Vis Bellica, Can you tell me which Special the morale rules are in as I would like to have a go at using them. Thanks for the comments, some seem to think I am being super critical but what I was doing was highlighting the main differences between the versions and asking what are people thinking....

IABSM version 2 or 3?

Does anyone feel like me that version 3 of IABSM has morphed into a being that, for several reasons, is a poorer imitation of version 2? Let me expand: 1. The initiative system seems to have produced a hierarchical distribution of initiative points. NCOs are at level 2 and the officers above them ar...

Re: Some solo thoughts

I use Platoon Forward to play IABSM solo and I have to say enjoy it immensely! I tend to link scenarios together dependent on the time in the war. Blinds are placed on table but I label them as type A, B or C and when spotted or activated then you roll for their composition. This can result in some ...

Re: Risk to Generals

Thanks for all of the comments. When we are playing Pickett’s Charge we all agree we are attempting a simulation and so we all generally agree on the situation in hand and decide accordingly, if there is disagreement a dice roll suffices! I appreciate with the more competitive players you need the r...
