Re: Germanic Slingers

I really like Fripp and Eno. Was thinking more on the lines of ELO or the Bay City Rollers, the second perhaps not really a progressive rock band.

Re: Wartaloo

Not that it makes much difference but I would consider elevating some of the French Ligne and Legere battalions to Grenadier status, per the optional rules, and perhaps reducing some of the third battalions to Enthusiastic Recruits. Adds a bit of interest in smaller games.

Re: Civil War!

You're right. The main interest for me is painting the Roman figures, I'm not so interested in painting the barbarians... Paradoxically, I’d find it easier to paint Romans. There’s so little readily available on, say, Germanic tribal clothing that I could see myself disappearing down that rabbit-ho...

Re: A couple of fussy questions about mortar barrages

Mortar stonks are pretty evil in CoC. There’s quite a lot of discussion elsewhere on the forum on whether they are too powerful. As for your question #1 — Yes, that’s 18 inches on each side, so 324 sq inches in total. This area is considerably reduced in some army lists, for example in the Blitzkrie...

Re: What Scale for Infamy

Yes @Tomm, you’re probably right. Sure I saw something some time ago about actual genetic changes over time. Certainly there is adaptation to environment, e.g. loss of natural melanin in northern climes, but perhaps that takes tens of thousands of years, not merely thousands. Perhaps human 1.01 then...

Some pretty funky hairstyles there. Like a progressive rock band from the 1970s.

Re: What Scale for Infamy

... and the human being 1.0 hasn't changed much .... Modern humans are at least 10% taller than just 70 years ago, and Italianate folks have always tended to be smaller than northern Europeans, so if we were on 1.0 in Roman times there is a good case for saying we are now on version 1.1 or 1.2. ;) ...

Re: German Pioneers 1940

I’ve gone back to wearing shorts: don them for most of the summer. In the same way my interests have been regressing — first to Napoleonics, which I fell in love with at age 12; then to toy cars, roughly age 10 to 12; and now to WW2, which I was obsessed by from about age 7 to 11.

Re: Built up area size for 15mm

Well, if you’ve got 12’ by 6’ to play on you can have the BuA’s as large as you want them. The only requirement is the practical one of being able to fit your battalion fully within the ‘courtyard’ of the BuA. But you don’t want them too big as even a 24-figure battalion will start to look f...

Re: Infamy with WRG/DBA style bases

I’ve been using WRG basing for Sharp Practice (which is closely related to Infamy) without major trauma. Just need enough singleton figures to remove as casualties between removing bases of four. The only problem are skirmishers, which really benefit from being individually based, possibly using the...
