That sounds fine. I prefer chits over cards because I don't like shuffling, but the effect is exactly the same.

But the tank would ignore the screening infantry and shoot at the AT gun.

That's the rule as written, but it gets a bit monotonous when you have to keep re-rolling ties, and also a hidden order works better in my opinion, hence the use of cards/chits as a house rule.

We only do the morale check for leaders lost if the tank explodes.

I would allow it, on a "play the period" basis. Historically I guess the choice would be between deploying fewer guns, or deploying them closer together.
