Re: Melee reforming/ firing after charges/ mass column

Interesting. A hesitant unit can only fire straight ahead and a unit in defense and in support distance must be use for support. So if the attacker doesn't have a supporting unit in front of the defenders hesitant support, can the support still fire at the attacker?

Re: Resources for unit grading

there are quit a few General de Brigand scenario books. I'd but a couple for the period I like and see what Brown thought under that set. There really isn't a lot of difference between the rule as far a ratings. You will have to use the optional rules for grenadier and reservist and enthusiastic rec...

Re: Firing as the charger goes across the front

In that vein, does the defending unit get to fire at a British unit that takes the option to counter-charge. Or is all the fire considered completed in the original charge.

Re: Terrain and Combat

So just for clarification. Does that loss while moving across the stream count as a loss in determining "causalties this charge". I would assume so, but I know people that would argue otherwise.

Re: Sk fire

Thanks DB. Our brigades tend to 6-8 bn, and one was half Fr lights, the other converged grenadiers, both with sk tasking. So much bigger than your expected average. My battery was supported on one side by a British line regiment on one side and another in a built up area on the other flank. Not sure...

Re: Sk fire

Haven't seen any of those really work. Moving the gun would be the result I'd want in the first place. Cav chasing sk can't fight my cav. And leave the cav wandering between the lines in musket and close gun range. Sk is really strong. -2 to hit, 3 hits to reduce a base, which might not reduce their...

Re: Sk fire

then were doing something wrong. Batteries are getting slaughtered. On average the battery will take 2 hits per turn and the sk base will take one. By the time a single sk base is gone the battery has lost 6-7 and is probably cause casualties to itself rather than the skirmishers (avg roll 7 -2 for ...

Sk fire

minus one cd against sk and cover, but what about deployed artillery? Do you fire a sk line at a battery or should it be part of a target line?

Columns

This question is from some of the people in my club. Other than against cav (-2 and easier to form square) why would you ever fight in column. The speed of movement is minor and the only other effect seems to be on recruits rolling on the DT.

Re: Cavalry charging Skirmishers

Of course there are other consideration. The cav shouldn't be charging alone, and it could and would divert to an adjacent target that didn't for square. Also the brigadier would probably order the entire inf brigade into square. Maybe the target and all supports should have to or get to try and for...
