Yep, reasonable compromise. Choice between Pioneer Squad and Stukas with my normal crap support rolls plus perhaps a Medic or a Shabby One.

Also, given that we are talking about the 1940 Handbook rather than the original rules, I would say the German Pioneer Squad from the 1940 Handbook is more appropriate than the generic one from the main rule book. Totally agree and in the One More River campaign with a minimum support level of 8 (2D6 +6), that allows for Stukas as well and any extras go to Shabby Nazi Tricks and perhaps boosting the Pioneers to have that FT by conversion of 3 riflemen in to such a team. quote="Truscott Trotter" post_id=68884 ...

I took it the other way, that you can buy the Pioneer Squad from the Pioneer Platoon, needs to be asked methinks.

Oh there will be a 3rd platoon alright but they will be in desert gear mostly, having discarded the heavy smocks in the heat of Sicily. Planning on a mix of scrimless Para helmets and berets for headgear.

Does that mean that there was no Platoon 2" mortar and therefore no HE apart from the RGLs? I'm thinking that the 42/43 Paras might even be rated as Regular rather than Elite due to a lack of experience.
