Re: Teams in WWI CoC

For my Gallipoli adaptation I just made everything a unit. A roll of 2 lets you do anything you could do in CoC with a roll of 2 for a squad or 1 for a team (i.e. activate normally). A roll of 1 lets you Deploy or Go to Ground (go Tactical) or Fire at half effect. It's not useless, but is deliberate...

Re: Numidians in cold climate

Almost certainly they'd wrap up. Why wouldn't they?

In my opinion it's also likely that by the 1st century BC, most of them that had been in Roman service for some years would have donned armour. This is very possibly true earlier.

Re: The range of rifles

Eye witness testimony from the Indian Mutiny indicates strongly the superiority of the rifled Enfield over the P1842 musket in that conflict. Enfield-armed units were much better able to engage mutineer at range, and did so effectively, even when (like the 1st Madras Fusiliers) they were unfamiliar ...

Re: Mounted units vs foot units doesn't feel quite right

On another note the period it covers didn’t tend to emphasise the importance of heavy cavalry as you rightly say. The Parthians with their nimble horse archers and kontos armed cataphracts are probably the closest to the armies you mention. These battles play very differently to the largely warband...

Re: playing the game with larger sized units

Melees can be quite drawn-out affairs as it stands. You might avoid the worst effects of some initial swings in combat (which can be pretty swingy), but you will have to do a lot of rounds of combat to resolve a melee. If that's your bag, go for it. But I once had a combat under the standard rules g...

Re: playing the game with larger sized units

Shock will potentially build up to a very significant degree. Bear in mind that Shock deducts from movement distance and fighting dice. So your unit of 27 models might have taken 7 casualties and have 13 Shock. So it'll still be above half strength, and be a long way from being forced to fall back, ...

Re: Leader Bonus duirng Firing

Adding a CI to Direct Fire makes no sense unless it is to allow a unit to which the Leader is not attached to add his dice to the firing.

That's correct. Although they will if the Leader expends a CI to direct their fire.

That fits better with my preconceptions, although I suspect it might depend a bit on what sort of vessel they were crewing.
