Re: Australian Independent Companies

G'day mate, Below is a one-page summary I wrote regarding Independent Company operations in 1942. This doesn't cover everything but indicates the main actions. The wider Australian Army took a while to warm to the idea of Independent Companies. The "commando" idea was pushed on them by gov...

Re: DRAFT DESERT TERRAN RULES

Rich is very interested in doing a western desert & Tunisia handbook; but this will be a fair way off. He still has to get the two Asia-Pacific handbooks done! Any book will have to include Tunisia and the Americans if it is to sell in the USA. My hope is that if people start playing the theatre...

Re: DRAFT DESERT TERRAN RULES

Cheers Capt Fortier. The idea of desert experience is one I hadn't thought of, but an interesting one. I will have to give it some serious thought. One option might be to give experienced desert troops Hard Cover when utilizing Deir & Hillock. Meanwhile, inexperienced troops might not get any co...

Re: DRAFT DESERT TERRAN RULES

Thanks for the comments jon1066, appreciate your input. I fully agree with the points you raised and have amended the post above accordingly. Your concern mainly related to the rules for Deir, Hillock and small Wadi. These have been amended to remove the Tactical out of LOS provisions. Hopefully the...

DRAFT DESERT TERRAN RULES

Greetings all, Apologies for a long post. Below are some draft desert terrain rules that I'm trying out. Putting them up here for perusal. Feel free to use them. I'd appreciate any comments or constructive criticism. They are based on a study I did of desert warfare some time ago and seek to reflect...

Re: Can mortars deploy/fire from within woods?

Providing there is a gap in the foliage cover to fire through, light and medium mortars would have no problem (and did fire out as far as I can determine). In jungle terrain where there was double or triple canopy, the bombs would detonate in the trees. However, Australian and Commonwealth forces ac...

Re: Tactical Stance and turn end

Good question. My thought is that its best to allow Tactical and Overwatch to remain after turn end. My reason is that such orders would not end in the period of time represented by a turn break. This is probably a time frame of minutes (admittedly, a long time in a fire fight) that allows for such ...

Re: Playing on 3x4, or smaller, versus the standard 6x4 Table

How workable a smaller table is would depend on the geography. Dense terrain such as jungle, urban or broken ridge lines would probably work. More open terrain like desert, farmland, or plains would be less fun as the whole board would be too open to interdiction and concentrated fire. The big drama...
