Re: Overwatch questions

Mike, thanks for the reply. I think I'll add that one to our House Rules/Clarifications list.

Re: Overwatch questions

Oh Mike, so as in example three, you play that when a unit goes completely out of sight of the enemy it goes back on a blind. Interesting.

Re: British Armoured Car Squadron 1944.

I don't think by Market Garden that the Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment was being used in the Recce role but rather in the "regimental" all-arms pairings of an Infantry and Armoured battion, so the Welsh one would be the 2nd Welsh Guards (Cromwell Regiment) and the 1st Battalion (infantry). The arm...

Re: Making IABSM less deadly

Not tried it. Presumably with more shock, sections are more likely to break, rather than carrying on fighting but with fewer men (though of course once down to zero actions a section is useless anyway and effectivelty broken).

Bunched Target rule

I am not convinced by the Bunched Targets increasing the pips by 2 rule. The rules state add +2 to an attack for each section/weapons team/crew within 2” of the target section for anti-personnel fire. This is crude. Why should a section with 4 remaining men plus a PIAT team of 2 take more casualties...

Re: New review

I enjoyed the podcast. IABSM is my favourite game too. You made a good point about the game in 1/300th being about the right scale. In terms of parts that are not so good: - I would change the statistically dubious direct HE fire table myself to just make 1 1 on the first die rolled a miss - Our onl...

Street Fighting

Any house rules (or variations from Specials) for Street Fighting? I am thinking of an attack on a Normandy village scenario but wonder whether IABSM would benefit from tweaks.

Re: 50mm v 75mm area fire

We throw the first die to see if it is a 6 or a 1, and then the rest (if not a 1). That way all calibres are equally accurate. Now you may argue that (a) they are equally accurate but the chance of a miss or a good shot are different from 1 in 6, or (b) you may argue that a good shot is less/more li...

Re: 50mm v 75mm area fire

We gave up using that table a long time ago as the probabilities seem wild. We roll the first D6 separately and that determines miss/great shot. Works for us.
